Qualcomm CEO thinks Metaverse will be a huge opportunity

Hardware companies are starting to see the recent metaverse push in the software industry as an interesting market. Qualcomm, one of the most stable chip makers in the mobile world, is focusing on the importance this new technology can bring to the chip and consumer electronics market in the not-too-distant future.

Cristiano Amon, the company’s CEO, explained the importance the company brings to the metaverse in an interview with Yahoo Finance. On the future of the metaverse, he explains:

It’s true, that would be a huge opportunity. We started investing in the underlying technologies that enable the unification of the physical and digital spaces more than a decade ago.

For the Amon metaverse will require specialized software for the application to provide the metaverse feel for the different goals.

Qualcomm’s CEO believes there could be a large market for wearables that can provide super-diverse enhancements for people on the go. Amon stated:

We have a number of different developments to finally create a companion for your smartphone with fully immersive augmented reality glasses that will truly look like regular glasses. I think it’s a great opportunity.

The chips produced by the company will support a number of devices used in Metaverse applications, such as the VR Quest line of headsets made by Meta and the next updated version of Hololens, Microsoft’s VR headset. . However, there are also those who oppose the use of wearables and augmented reality technology as part of the metaverse.

Ken Kutaragi, considered the father of the first version of the Sony Playstation, considers combining wearables with the metaverse a mistake. For Kutaragi, the metaverse has to do with the application of augmented reality techniques that allow users to enjoy the present world without using a wearable.
