Coinbase Launches New Cryptocurrency Research Institute
Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has created a “Cryptocurrency Research Institute” in an effort to help shape global discussions about policies towards digital assets.
The newly created Coinbase Institute will also publish research on crypto and Web3.
Coinbase has nominated its Chief Policy Officer Haction Wong to head the institute. Previously, she worked in the Economic and Risk Analysis Division at the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and previously worked at the State Department.
The relevant Coinbase Institute advisory board has also been established and will feature law and finance scholars from top universities such as Harvard, MIT, Duke and John Hopkins along with academic partnerships with University of Michigan.
The University of Michigan has conducted surveys for the US Census Bureau and the Department of Defense and will partner with Coinbase on an annual US survey that measures crypto adoption and sympathy. for digital assets.
The institute has published the first in a series of “Coinbase Primers” – reports explaining key issues in cryptocurrency. It released a “Cryptocurrency and Climate” report on May 19 to ensure the high energy utilization of proof-of-work blockchains like Bitcoin (BTC).
