Breaking News: STEPN is under DDoS attack again

The STEPN app asked users to “take a break” while engineers worked to fix the problem.

STEPN is under DDoS attack again

Yesterday (June 5, 2022), the famous Move To Earn application STEPN – was attacked by a denial of service (DDoS) attack. This is the third time the app has faced similar attacks in as many months.

According to the Twitter page of this Move-To-Earn leading game, the developers of STEPN are still working to fix the problem.

We’ve been under a DDOS attack in the last hours,” the people behind the game said in a tweet yesterday. The game’s team also added: “Security of servers and recovery can take 1 to 12 hours.

Another tweet read: “We recommend taking a short break during maintenance, otherwise it may not be recorded correctly. Our engineers are working hard to fix the issues.”

Also yesterday, users were informed that the game is experiencing “network congestion” after it was attacked by 25 million DDoS in a short time.

STEPN faces 3rd attack in 3 consecutive months

A DDoS attack is when malicious actors try to bring down a website by overloading it with useless traffic. Such attacks are common – especially in the crypto world.

STEPN is a “earning” app where users are rewarded for being active outdoors. Players must purchase Solana-based NFT (non-fungible token) sneakers to play the game and earn tokens when they run or walk.

STEPN claims to be a “Web3 lifestyle app”, which has two tokens – one is a utility token (GST) and the other is a governance token (GMT).

It seems that even hackers are surprised to be able to take down this popular application with ease. In April and again in May, the game announced that people were trying to cripple it by sending out millions of DDoS attacks.
